Art Challenge 10 - Hands in Different Gestures

I'm sorry, I skipped drawing a skull. I've drawn far too many at uni and honestly I just can't. I also am not feeling particularly arty today, so I obviously went for hands, a subject I am well versed in.

So there is apparently a trick to drawing hands and that is to draw lines on your own arm and use it as a reference for how big or small each section should be. My attempt is below, please don't laugh.....alright go ahead laugh at the result, it is very laughable and that.....thumb, can I even call it a thumb? The nub that is supposed to be my thumb, I don't even know what was going on there, maybe it just needs shading?

I don't know...maybe I just have the hands of an arthritic 90 year old? I mean what's going on with those varicose veins? I think I got the knuckles down to a tea though. Definitely needs improvement. I used Staedtler Triplus Fineliners for this.
